Analysis of DPS Rankings in "Embers of Neltharion" Dungeon

Source:lootwow

Oct-06-2024

In the latest DPS rankings for the Embers of Neltharion raid in World of Warcraft, certain specializations like Shadow Priest, Frost Mage, and Subtlety Rogue are underperforming. However, their struggles go beyond just numbers—there are deeper issues at play.

Shadow Priest Analysis

Shadow Priests are currently at the bottom of Mythic difficulty rankings for Neltharion’s Lair. This isn't surprising, as they struggle in encounters with heavy movement and large groups of enemies, both of which are common in this raid. Their mediocre single-target damage adds to the problem. Beyond the numbers, Shadow Priests seem ill-suited for the current raid mechanics, and the lack of mobility in their toolkit further exacerbates the issue. Compared to other classes, their movement options are outdated, often requiring external support from Paladins and Shamans.

Frost Mage in Mythic "Neltharion’s Lair"

Frost Mages are also underperforming in Mythic raids. Their strength lies in two-target cleave damage, but many of the fights feature more targets, favoring Fire Mages with their "Ignite" mastery. Moreover, caster trinkets, especially those available to Frost Mages, are unreliable and often target adds instead of bosses. The rotation for Frost Mages is also quite complex, requiring precise timing to maximize damage. Fortunately, upcoming patch 11.0.5 promises to simplify their rotation, which should help narrow the gap between Frost and other Mage specs.

Subtlety Rogue Challenges

Subtlety Rogues rank low across all specializations in Mythic difficulty. In Heroic raids, their performance is strong, but the longer fight durations in Mythic raids diminish their burst-damage potential. The Subtlety spec relies heavily on cooldown reduction, which becomes less effective over time in extended fights. This spec also suffers from strict timing requirements, where small delays or errors can significantly hurt DPS output. The current raid favors multi-target damage, which doesn't align well with Subtlety's strengths in single-target burst.

In conclusion, Shadow Priests, Frost Mages, and Subtlety Rogues are facing more than just tuning issues. Their struggles stem from deeper problems related to encounter design, talent choices, and reliance on specific cooldowns. Until these are addressed, these specializations are likely to continue underperforming in high-end content.
