Three Major Bugs in Embers of Neltharion

The underground content in World of Warcraft has been plagued with numerous bugs, and whenever Blizzard fixes one, another seems to pop up. After just solving the issue where Rune Crests weren’t dropping, more problems have surfaced that still need addressing.
1. Blizzard Fixed the Bug Where Rune Crests Didn’t Drop
According to the original design of the Embers of Neltharion dungeons, layers 8-11 should drop two Rune Crests (used to craft or upgrade gear to item level 619), and treasure chests from treasure maps should drop two Wyrm Crests (for upgrading gear to item level 623-639). However, players noticed that while running layer 8 dungeons this week, Rune Crests weren't dropping at all.
Blizzard has confirmed that this was indeed a bug and has since fixed it. Many players in other regions have logged in and received compensatory Rune Crests—some players who ran 20 dungeons received 40 Rune Crests at once.
For the Chinese servers, it’s now confirmed that layer 8 and above in the Embers of Neltharion dungeons are dropping two Rune Crests as intended.
After the fix, players discovered that running "non-Plentiful" Embers of Neltharion dungeons, such as the Twilight Sanctuary, also dropped Rune Crests. Additionally, players can farm Flame Ashes and Heroic Stones at the same time.
By using high-damage solo classes, like Retribution Paladins, players can complete a run in just 6-10 minutes, making this an efficient method for farming.
Currently, it’s unclear if the non-Plentiful Embers of Neltharion dungeons dropping Rune Crests is a bug or an intentional change by Blizzard. Before it gets patched, players can farm as many as they can—up to 20-40 Rune Crests per hour. For those who grind hard enough, it’s possible to fully upgrade all gear to 619 within two to three days, making progression much smoother.
2. The Bug Where Treasure Maps and Trinkets Don’t Drop
This is another bug that has been causing World of Warcraft players a lot of frustration. Many players have reported that after running 10-20 dungeons over the past week, they haven't seen a single trinket or treasure map drop.
Meanwhile, other players have already upgraded half of their trinkets to 4/4 epic, and some incredibly lucky players have even looted six treasure maps (debunking the rumor that you could only farm three treasure maps per week). This disparity is staggering.
So, what’s causing this bug where treasure maps and trinkets aren’t dropping?
According to analysis by the player "High-Powered Map Cannon," the trinket drop system uses a traversal mechanism. However, there is a bug with Zek'Vril's Bloodied Trinket. Players who have already acquired it may not have seen the achievement notification pop up, indicating that the drop progress is stuck at that point.
The temporary solution for this bug is: do not run the "Zek'Vril's Nest" dungeon, do not loot Zek'Vril's Bloodied Trinket, and avoid picking up anything that drops from Zek'Vril in normal Embers of Neltharion dungeons to prevent triggering the bug!
3. The Bug Where Only Cloaks Drop
On the first day that layer 8 of the Embers of Neltharion dungeons opened, players began encountering the "Four Cloak Knights." Soon after, the "Six Cloak Knights" and "Eight Cloak Knights" followed. Initially, I thought this was just bad luck for a few players. However, when I encountered the "Thirteen Cloak Knight," it became clear that the loot system in these dungeons was bugged.
Out of hundreds of possible gear items in the database, players were repeatedly and consistently only receiving cloaks. The odds of this happening consecutively thirteen times are astronomically low, less than one in a billion. This isn’t just bad RNG—it’s a design flaw. Hopefully, Blizzard will identify and fix this bug soon!
