WoW 11.0 Gear System Overview
Source:lootwow
Let's take a look at how you can quickly obtain gear with an item level of 600+ after the update of the first season of WoW 11.0. This detailed guide will help you understand the current gear system in World of Warcraft and what you should do.
Many players, especially those returning after WoW's relaunch in China, are confused by the current gear system. With the start of the new season, players might struggle to understand how to gear up effectively. This guide will explain it all.
In patch 10.0, Blizzard revamped WoW's gear system, adding suffixes and gear ranks. However, this change has left some players confused.
Gear Suffixes in 11.0
In the 11.0 patch, gear is divided into six ranks: Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, and Mythic. The first three ranks can be obtained before the start of Season 1, while Champion rank and above are primarily available once Season 1 begins.
Since the 11.0 patch introduced the "Underground Bastion" system, the first three ranks of gear are temporary, as you'll eventually replace them with stronger pieces.
Gear Upgrades
Gear in 11.0 can be upgraded. For example, Champion gear starts at 597 item level (ilvl). After upgrading it eight times, it can reach 619 ilvl, which is higher than the base 610 ilvl of Hero gear.
This system is well-received by players once they get used to it. Even if you're a casual player who only participates in Normal raids or the Underground Bastion, you can gradually upgrade your gear to reach Hero raid levels. The upgrade system allows even casual players to gear up for more challenging content, making ilvl less important than before.
Gear Comparison Example
Let's say you have a piece of Champion gear at 8/8 upgrades with 619 ilvl. At first glance, it may seem better than a new Hero item with 1/6 upgrades at 610 ilvl. However, since Hero gear can be upgraded to 6/6 with a maximum ilvl of 626, it's better to upgrade the Hero gear if possible.
Casual Players and Mid-Season Gearing
Casual players can expect to acquire a large amount of Champion and Hero gear during the middle of the season. By mixing in Mythic crafted gear (which every player can make), and upgrading it, you will be equipped to handle 90% of the game's content. Even if you don't engage in the most difficult endgame content, upgrading will still allow you to obtain near-endgame quality gear.
How Gear Upgrading Works
After understanding the new gear system, let's talk about upgrading. Upgrading gear requires crests and Valorous Stones. The amount of materials needed varies based on the gear's rank, but typically, you need 15 specific crests per upgrade.
In 11.0, there are four types of crests. It may seem complicated, but I'll simplify it for you. The two most important crests are Sigil Crests and Encrusted Crests. Etched Crests and Weathered
Crests are temporary, and you don’t need to worry about them.
Sigil Crests can upgrade Champion gear up to rank 4 and Hero gear up to rank 4.
Encrusted Crests are the strongest, allowing upgrades for Hero gear to ranks 5 and 6, as well as Mythic gear.
By mastering this system, you'll be able to gear up quickly and efficiently in the new season.
